Centered

Gallery 1516's mission embraces both Nebraska and regional artists. This artwork comes from the Reuben Saunders Gallery in Wichita, KS, which has been celebrating artists from the Plains region since 1978. "Centered" refers not only to our geographical placement, but also to the ability it takes to harness one's ideas and emotions to create a work of art.

MidWestern Abstract

Featuring artists Tom Prinz and Mike Nesbit. For the past six years, their collaborative art and installation work has been engaged in a dialogue about the MidWestern landscape.

2023 Nebraska Biennial

The Nebraska Biennial is a juried exhibition featuring some of the best work by artists from across the state. This year's exhibition features 115 artists from a diverse range of backgrounds and styles. The Biennial is part of Gallery 1516's mission to support and celebrate Nebraska artists.

Modern Quilting on the Prairie

Walk through the the exhibition Modern Quilting on the Prairie, presented at Gallery 1516 by the Omaha Modern Quilt Guild and the International Quilt Museum. This exhibition was described as “one of the best shows of the year” by The Reader (2023).

2022 Regional Photo Biennial

The 2022 Regional Photography Biennial is a new program introduced by Gallery 1516 to showcase the artistic talent of photographers from the seven-state region of Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

Milton Wolsky: Traveling Exhibition

Part of Gallery 1516’s mission includes sending traveling exhibitions of Nebraska artwork to other museums across the region. This exhibition features the artwork of Milton Wolsky, a mid-century artist and illustrator from Nebraska. The exhibition was hosted at the Blanden Art Museum in Fort Dodge, IA from May-July 2022.

Nebraska: Flatwater Immersive Installation

This is an original production developed and produced by Gallery 1516. Nebraska: Flatwater is an immersive video installation that explores the natural beauty of the state throughout the four seasons. A series of projectors around the gallery surrounded visitors with a 360-degree experience of the the changing landscape, with scenes including autumn wheat fields, roaming bison, and snow on the Platte River.

Confluence Exhibition

Confluence brings together five Omaha artists with distinctive approaches: Stephen Azevedo, Bill Hoover, Karen Linder, Kristae Peterson, and Meghan Stevens. This exhibition seeks to bring together these artists’ work into a group show of Omaha’s artist community. The significance of the word “confluence” is its meaning of unity, particularly after a period of division. Like rivers, these five artists have come together to form a unified exhibition.

AIS Paint-Out at the Quarry 2021

The American Impressionist Society’s (AIS) 22nd Annual National Juried Exhibition was hosted at Gallery 1516 September 9 - December 12, 2021. Members of AIS held a special paint-out event at an Omaha quarry as part of their related activities.

MONA2Omaha - Fred Otnes: A Collage

Fred Otnes’s collage works have appeared on magazine covers, movie posters, and more for decades. The artist was born in Junction City, Kansas in 1925, but grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. After working as an artist at The Lincoln Journal, Otnes later became an illustrator for national magazines including The Saturday Evening Post and Collier’s.

This exhibition was organized by the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) in Kearney. Special thanks to the Robert K. Otnes Trust.

Emerging Artists Exhibition

Learn more about the Emerging Artists exhibition at Gallery 1516. We collaborated with Amplify Arts to create a showcase of emerging artists from the Omaha area. The exhibition featured the work of Anne Dovali, Neil Griess, Camille Hawbaker Voorhees, Jenna Johnson, Shawnequa Linder, Patty Talbert, and Tom White.

Spontaneity: 10 Nebraska Abstract Painters

Take a virtual tour of Spontaneity, featuring artwork by 10 abstract and abstract expressionist artists from Nebraska. Enjoy their spontaneous, gestural, and colorful paintings.

Featuring: James Bockelman, Dan Howard, Jerry Jacoby, Diane Lounsberry-Williams, Ann Pape, Larry Roots, Mark Sabaliauskas, Nancy Teague, JK Thorsen, and Beverly Todd.
