2019 Nebraska Artist Biennial
GALLERY 1516 will soon be accepting applications for the
2019 NEBRASKA ARTIST BIENNIAL
What is the Biennial?
The Biennial is a juried exhibition of artwork by Nebraska artists. In 2017, Gallery 1516 introduced the Nebraska Artist Biennial exhibition to further our mission to serve Nebraska artists. The show brought together over 50 works from a diverse range of artists and awarded thousands of dollars of prize money. The 2019 Nebraska Artist Biennial will continue to showcase the very best of the state’s artistic talent, with the new addition of 3D art to this year’s list of categories. Those selected will have their work shown at the Biennial exhibition at Gallery 1516 from May 16 – August 4, 2019. The Biennial is open to all Nebraska artists, including students and current and former residents.
We will be accepting artwork from the following categories: Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Ceramics/Pottery, Multimedia/Other, in addition to a Student Artist division
Selection Process and Exhibition
Artwork submitted for the exhibition will be reviewed by a panel of three judges, one each from Kearney, Lincoln, and Omaha. Judging is done blind to ensure unbiased selections; the judges only see the artwork you submit, not your name or information. Fifty+ works will be selected to be shown at the Biennial exhibition at Gallery 1516 from May 16 – August 4, 2019. (Please note that you may be asked to bring your artwork to be seen in person for further review. This is part of the selection process and does not guarantee a place in the final exhibition.)
Artists are encouraged to submit their strongest work; entries do not need to reflect your most recent portfolio. Each artist may enter a maximum of 3 pieces which can come from multiple categories. A piece from each category will be selected to win a $500 prize. The winner of Best in Show will also have their artwork featured in a future exhibition at Gallery 1516, in addition to the Biennial.
The application will be available shortly on this website.
You will need the following information to complete the application:
Up to 3 images of artwork
For each image you will be asked to provide the title, date, medium, dimensions, a brief description of the artwork, and the value or selling price.
Applications sent by mail will not be accepted
